After a rough week of saying goodbye to a valuable team member who has now left the program, and stressful planning for a health fair that now looms in the near future, volunteering at Inner City Mission was just the fun experience that our group needed. Everyone we worked with was absolutely wonderful, and we had a fantastic time. We had such a great time, in fact, that we stayed until about 6:30pm volunteering at the site. All in all we were at inner city mission for about 7.5 hours, but it certainly didn’t feel like it. My job was checking people in. I took down their basic information so that they were registered and could proceed through, which may sound dull and tedious, but it was great to be able to talk to each and every participant. The brief interactions were almost exclusively pleasant, and in some cases I had great conversations. Everyone was excessively kind to us, and they even sent us home with leftover food that they would have had to throw out otherwise. Now I have an unnecessary amount of melons in the trunk of my car. If you are looking for some melon, hit me up.
