This week, our team worked on brainstorming and planning our final project. We decided to make a documentary to illustrate various perspectives on community violence. Our team will be making a documentary exploring the relationship between community members and police in minority communities, specifically in the neighborhood of Greater Grand Crossing. We decided to film a documentary addressing community policing and community violence because Greater Grand Crossing has a high prevalence of violence and also the police department has been a great asset we have identified in the community. We plan to conduct a series of interviews with relevant stakeholders including police, doctors, social workers, and community members.
This week we were able to get a tour and have a question and answer panel with the 3rd district police department. It was very informative and the officers were open to answering a lot of our questions.
We also led a workshop at Gary Comer Youth Center for incoming freshmen. We talked with them about healthy relationships in high school and also answered the various questions they had about high school.
We are excited about our documentary and are looking forward to more interviews in the community!
